Do You Have A Food Addiction?
Do you think you have a food addiction? Many people think that they have a food addiction. For instance, some folks have a hard time steering clear of chocolate. That really isn’t a food addiction, though.
Unlike smoking or alcohol addictions, being addicted to food is one that is sometimes more difficult to kick because the body requires food to survive. Evaluating the reasons why someone feels they are addicted often shows that it is not the food itself that causes the addiction but rather the feeling that the addictive food creates.
People eat when stressed, sad or angry and sometimes to alleviate feelings of loneliness. Often under these circumstances comfort is sought from foods such as chocolate, icecream and other high sugar, high fat foods.
These foods provide a short term level of happiness as the body reacts to the sugar, quickly followed by a plummet in blood sugar and low feelings, which a person then feels can only be ‘fixed’ by eating more of the same. This may give a person the mistaken belief that they are addicted.
