Why Low Fat Diets Don’t Work
While many people wishing to lose a few pounds think that cutting back on fat will ensure those extra pounds come off, the body actually requires a certain amount of the right fats for good health.
Did you know that fat is partially responsible for the pleasant taste of foods, so reducing or cutting out fat may make meals bland?
This may make a diet extremely difficult to stay on. Cutting out all fat may initially result in weight loss but there is also a high risk of the body burning muscle along with the stored fat and this will result in a low metabolic rate. Animal fats can be safely reduced from the diet, but like any food, a small amount will do no harm.
Substituting fish for meat a couple of times a week will reduce animal fats and add in some more of the ‘good’ fats such as Omega 3. Avocados are also another good source of the ‘good’ fats.
So, keep a little good fat in your diet!
